How To Meditate

So I have been dropping hints, and briefly explaining how to meditate, but I haven’t give a step by step process of what it is that I do. Now this is different for everyone, and I can only explain how I get there, what works best for me. I am also going to post a 5 part series which is very informative. It is worth watching.

It is best to try this in a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed, in a room with near silence or only ambient background noise.

Typically, when I want to go into that higher state, I will just go to bed like normal. I’ll have a glass of water, I’ll brush my teeth, wash hands and face and you know, just get ready for bed. Then I’ll lay down in bed, and rather than try to go to sleep, I start to breathe.

1. Breathe slowly, and deeply. Feel the air go down to your stomach, and just relax with each breath.

While doing this, I try to clear my mind of all thoughts. I try not to think about anything that happened to me earlier, or any stressful problems I may have. I just let go of my thoughts.

2. A good method of letting go of thoughts, is to count. Count each breath you take. Start at 1 and do not let your mind stray, count to 10. If you can do 10 successful breaths without any thoughts invading and taking your attention away, you should start to feel lightheaded. I do this with my eyes closed.

Feeling light headed is the first “thought” that comes to mind. Rather than analyzing why I feel light headed, I give into it. I let go.

3. By letting go, I mean, trying to make the light headed feeling stronger, by focusing on it. Which means my mind has let go of everything else.

By focusing on that light headed feeling, my body naturally begins breathing on its own. I no longer have to consciously breathe deeply. It does this by itself. Its like auto-pilot. You will feel your body breathe for you, try your best not to interrupt it. If you do, its okay, just breathe slowly for a few more breaths and it should take over again.

4.Allow your body to breathe for you, while focusing on that light headed feeling.

You should start to feel your mind being pulled. This might seem very scary. This is your ego trying to tell you something is wrong. Nothing is wrong, keep going, don’t lose focus. This pulling feelings will get more and more intense, gettting scarier the more intense it gets. Then you will start to feel like the room is spinning. Don’t fight this feeling, again, focus on it. Let it spin you, don’t give into fear.

5. Let go of all your concepts. Surrender to what your mind wants, not what your senses tell you. The spinning will get so intense, you will no longer realize you’re spinning. You may start to see shapeless blobs of light.

During the spinning phase, you will start to feel your body tingle, or heat up. It will be very pleasureable, this is how you will know that it is safe to keep going. Despite how scary the experience, it will feel good. Once you get past the spinning stage, all you have to do is maintain your focus on what your mind is doing. Lay still, and just observe. Chances are you will not be able to move if you tried. As entering this state often paralysis the body. No worries, after a few moments of frantically trying to take control of your body, you will regain control. Or, you could, just take control of your breathing, and control to the rest of the body comes back.

6. Observe your mind, and feel your senses ignite with pleasure. It is a beautiful blissful feeling. In this state, your body will heal many many ailments that you have. Sometimes even healing diseases. It is one of the most healthy things you can do for your body.

7. To leave this higher state of consciousness, allow yourself to come out of it naturally, or, take control of your breathing. Don’t try to move when you are paralised, this just creates more unnecessary fear.

8. Upon exiting the state, allow yourself to drift off to sleep after 5 minutes of pure amazement. You will sleep undisturbed until morning. When you wake up, you will feel incredible.

Now that was just my method, there are many methods, positions and atmospheres you can do this in. I have found that I just feel more receptive to it, just sitting on my couch. I have noticed myself slip into that state trying to sleep, not even on purpose, it just goes there! Then there are times where I really have to concentrate. I think its all a matter of practice. Chances are you will not get there right away. But keep trying, and you will. When you do, you will be amazed. Lifes problems will seem to get much easier, you’ll just think in a different way. This is best experienced for yourself, any description of it, just doesn’t do it justice. Good luck, and take care!
